Why the Military?

Posted in: Stories

  1. God ordained the military with a purpose.

A government (including its military) can be a tremendous blessing to a nation or its greatest curse. The Bible teaches that the purpose of the military is to administer God’s justice (Romans 13:1-4). God desires governments to protect its people from the evil actions of sinful people. It is important for military men and women to walk with God so that they can fulfill God’s intended purpose for their service.

  2. Historically God has used the military for His mission.

God has used the militaries of the world to strategically spread the gospel and accomplish His purposes. In the time of the Roman Empire, Rome would advance its territory by first sending the military to civilize a territory, then they would send in leaders to establish government. The Praetorian Guard would be assigned governing positions as a reward for their service. Paul says in Philippians 1:12-13, “ Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, so that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else.” We believe God is at work in the militaries of the world to not only administer His justice, but also bring the goodness that comes through the life transforming message of Christ.

  3. The military is a unique culture that requires unique ministry.

The military is a unique culture within any country. It has its own support systems, rhythms of life, and challenges. Today, many military families are separated because of deployments, causing unique relationship challenges that many civilians do not face. Men and women in the armed forces experience and have to learn to cope with the effects of war. Common challenges like leadership stress, peer pressure are felt with greater intensity.

We want to see members of the armed forces everywhere come to know Christ. Currently this mission is being lived out not only in the United States but also with the militaries of 26 other countries. Our active strategies focus on Academies, Bootcamps, Installations, & Churches/Community Mobilization.
