How To Pray For Your Spouse When They Are Deployed

When your spouse is deployed, it is normal to feel anxious and for them when they are away from home. One of the best ways to honor them is to pray for them. You can use scriptures as a guideline to call on God’s promises. Here are a few scriptures you can pray over your deployed spouse:

Protection

Deployments are dangerous. It doesn’t matter who your spouse is or what their job is — when they are away from home, it’s natural to feel anxious and worried about their safety. Pray for God’s protection over your spouse.

Psalm 91

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

Hope/Renewal

Long, high-tension days may begin to wear on your spouse. As they face challenges on a daily basis, they may grow tired. Pray that the Lord renews your spouse each day and that they will find hope and renewal through their faith in the Lord.

Lamentations 3:21-24

“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in Him.’”

Strength

The strength of your spouse’s spirit will need to endure can come from only one place, and that’s God. You and everyone around them may be encouraging day by day, but God is the only one who can truly hold them up. Pray that God’s strength strengthens them in whatever they face.

Philippians 4:12-13

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Comfort

Deployments can bring fear and discomfort. Pray for comfort for you and your spouse. Remember that you are His, and that means He will be with both of you at all times.

Isaiah 43:1-3

“But now thus says the Lord … ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”

Courage

The Lord our God is with all of us, wherever we go. Pray that your spouse remembers that the Lord is always near, providing protection and that this gives them the courage and strength needed to accomplish their mission.

Joshua 1:9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
