Dynamic Discipleship in Latin America

Posted in: Stories

“You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.” 2 Timothy 2:1 (NIV)

One of our singular joys at Cru Military®, much like the Apostle Paul, is encouraging those who have made a decision to follow Christ to develop in their faith.  We call that “discipleship,” and it finds its expression in our ministry’s DNA of Win, Build, and Send, as we build others in their faith so they too will take the gospel and “entrust [it] to reliable men.”  The apostle is reminding us that following Christ is a continual, lifelong, and daily yielding to His Spirit, and in turn, becoming like Him as we lead others in this process. We are excited that throughout Latin America, the Pauline passion for discipleship is alive and thriving among the military of this strategic region.

General Rodolfo Interiano, the Latin American Area of Operations Director, and his wife Eva have passionately labored to establish a great foundation for continued fruitfulness among all dimensions of those who wear the uniform of many nations throughout Latin America.  It is especially impressive to see this in the monthly virtual Bible study that ministers to over 30 senior military officers and leaders from 7 nations in the region.  Many of these faithful Bible study participants are not only involved in several of the discipleship outreaches in their own nations, but also regularly join a monthly time of prayer, praise, and intercession for military members throughout Latin America.

From these leaders who gather to garner spiritual sustenance from the Bible as a community of faith and who place such a premium on prayer and an ever-increasing closeness to their Lord, much discipleship fruit has come about.  Seven ongoing Bible studies have been created for military personnel and their spouses, encouraging and building up others in Honduras, Columbia, and Ecuador.  This committed group of disciples who make up the leadership is directly responsible for ministering to over 500 cadets weekly in 12 academies. Their prayerful goal is to reach over 600 by the year’s end!

And the Lord is opening many more doors to reach the cadets as well as junior and mid-grade officers in the Dominican Republic and Colombia in the very near future.

Our fervent hope is that you will join us in praising the Lord for His divine movement among the military community of faith throughout Latin America.  We also pray that your continued intercession and support of these passionate disciple-makers would yield a fruit worthy of the “grace that is in Christ Jesus” so evidently on display for our good and, most certainly, for His glory among the military community of Latin America and beyond!
