Pasta and Discussion

“I don’t understand this,” declared Xiu.

“Is it the language?” I asked.

“No, it is the Bible. I am not a Christian, so it is all new to me,” answered Xiu.

This is how our discussion, about why Jesus came, began on Saturday evening. In fact, on the way to our house, a soldier from Jordan began a discussion on the miracles of Jesus that he’d read about in the Bible I gave him. As a Muslim, he honors Jesus as a prophet, and in the small group he is discovering more about who Jesus really is. As the evening progressed we explored Scriptures about how our sin separates us from God and our common need for a savior. Expressions of wonder and concentration revealed men wrestling with new information. As Xiu departed that evening he commented that he needed to read more of the Bible. Pray that these men would not just gain information but would meet a person, Jesus, the Savior that loves them.

Connecting the Global Military Community to Christ

Cru Military staff members, Jeff and Kristin have been meeting regularly with a group of soldiers and recently a group of them came to their home for pasta and discussion (aka Bible study). These men serve in the military of a number of other nations and are stationed at Fort Eustis for training. Most of them have never read the Bible before, yet they are attending regularly and participating in our conversations. Helping soldiers encounter the Jesus of the Bible and experiencing a loving community is a joy for Jeff and Kristin.

These men are in the area for only a few weeks at a time. Pray for the Cru Military International Team as they work to impact the world through outreach in our own back yard.

Update: One of the groups watched the movie, “Courageous,” this week. Seven of the men, all from Latin America, indicated that they’d prayed to receive Christ. Pray they will be established in their new faith, putting down roots into God’s love and His Word before they return home.
