The Truth of God’s Word

It is an amazing experience to have believed a massive lie about who God is, but later to find out how much God loves the military wherever they serve. A soldier in an African nation fighting against the Boko Haram for over ten years had believed God was not with him or his fellow soldiers. He had been taught at the training centers God had abandoned the soldiers, but the devil had recovered them. The leaders told him and the other trainees that when you are called to kill men then you are automatically condemned by God and you will only go to hell. This training led him to no longer even think of doing good but doing evil knowing he had lost his chance with God.

But one day, he got so sick he had to be interned in the camp infirmary. A pastor volunteer working on behalf of Cru Military International arrived to pray for the patients in the infirmary. Some of the words he shared were to first encourage them psychologically, but he emphasized the concepts were from the Word of God. When the soldier heard God had been with him all along and has never abandoned him, he was amazed at these words. This was the first time he heard any kind of reassuring thoughts about God, he thought the pastor was a liar, so he went about trying to denigrate what he heard. But the more questions he asked, the more an understanding was made clearer not only to the one soldier but to many. After a deeper discussion, it became clear they could ask God for forgiveness, repent of their sins, and become followers of Jesus. The caring pastor used the Word of God and prayers for healing for the soldiers as he ministered that day. It was noted by the doubting soldier when he was released from the infirmary the next day with a healed body, he also had a changed heart.
