Volunteering Through Him

Under the guidance of military chaplains, Cru Military ministers to recruits, cadets, and midshipman at point of entry locations nationwide.  It’s been said that our ministry “lifts up the arms of the chaplains”.  Every year, we see thousands make decisions for Christ. It is through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and a sea of faithful staff and volunteers that this level of evangelistic outreach is achieved.

Tim Verroi, a ministry volunteer, shared that it took two years of training with his pastor to have the knowledge he needed to share the Gospel with others.  It took a couple weeks longer to drive out the fear and convince himself he was ready. And when that happened, Military Ministry of Cru was waiting. “It seemed like the very next weekend at church, a table popped up seeking for Military Ministry volunteers,” Verroi said. “It was God calling me loud and clear.”

Verroi admits he was overwhelmed the first Sunday he arrived on base. “There were recruits everywhere.” And then a lady asked if he could share the Gospel with a group of eight recruits. And that day all eight came to know Christ. He hasn’t looked back.

“This is the joy of my life,” he says. “I believe I was raised up for this. I was called specifically for this ministry.” From that moment 15 years ago, Verroi now spends about 50 Sundays a year on base with recruits, along with anytime he can spare during the week so he can be there for them “in the field.” He teaches the Gospel, prays with them, and talk with these young men and women about their fears, morality, integrity and the purpose of life.

Almost a year ago, the Lord opened the door for Tim to  join Cru Military’s Development
Committee, which works to secure support for the ministry.  He shared, “there’s a limited amount of us (volunteers) and sometimes up to 4,000 recruits to minister to.”  More people and resources are needed to reach more of these young men and women and bring them to Christ. The sooner these young men and women come into a relationship with Christ, the sooner God can use them for His glory.
