Making a Spiritual Difference in the Fight

On Thursday, 5 February 2015, hundreds of Boko Haram terrorists attacked churches in Northern Cameroon from across the border region of Borneo in Nigeria.  We sincerely ask for prayer for our Cameroon Military Ministry Director, who is ministering to troops in Cameroon in this very volatile region….

The minister of information for Cameroon, Issa Tchiroma Bakari, recently reported that some 800 terrorists of Boko Haram had attacked the town of Fotokol.  During this attack it was estimated that as many as 100 individuals had been shot, over 500 wounded and numerous Christian churches razed to the ground.  A military spokesman sharing on behalf of the government, Colonel Didier Badjeck, reported that Boko Haram was using civilians as human shields, making it difficult for the army to effectively deal with the threat.  In addition to this physical devastation it has been reported by numerous sources that these terrorists have publicly threatened all Christians to leave all areas under their control or convert to Islam.

We sincerely ask for prayer for our dear brother, Augustin, who has been asked to accompany troops to this very volatile region.  The military in Cameroon does not have an independent, multi-confessional chaplain corps, though leaders like Augustin and our partners from the International Association of Evangelical Chaplains, Olive Branch and ACCTS have been working diligently to lay the foundation for just such a chaplaincy.  Recognizing Augustin’s commitment for the spiritual welfare of Cameroon military personnel, efforts are underway to allow him to accompany some deploying personnel with spiritual resources and to provide pastoral support as necessary.

We are honored to be able to stand with Augustin as he courageously ventures into harm’s way to ensure God’s best reaches those on the front-lines.  Our heartfelt desires are that the Lord will watch over our brother in his travels, his ministry, as well as his wife and the children who remain at home in Yaounde.  We pray for the salvation of those who are causing such pain and devastation in this region.  We remember the Apostle Paul’s words to the church in Rome of those whose hearts have not yet been touched with the knowledge of Christ when he wrote,

“Their feet are swift to shed blood; destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Romans 3:15-18)

We pray that the fear of the Lord may come upon these souls and this region may once again know His peace.
