Thanksgiving Devotion: Thanking God for giving you His Breath of Life

Posted in: Stories

Week 3

This time of the year, we are experiencing some of the finest displays of beauty in our earthly landscapes, and the cool, crisp fall air is so refreshing to take in. Look outside, take a few big deep breaths, and think about how God created you.

When God created the animals on land, in the waters, and in the air, He did it in an instant. But when it came time to create Adam, consider how He performed that miracle in a two-part series:

“The Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and the man became a living creature.” Genesis 2:7

God ‘formed the man of dust from the ground.’ In part one of the miracle, the man and woman are like every other created being as described in Genesis 2:19: “Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens.”

But part two of the miracle of the creation of Adam is the most incredible: ‘God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and the man became a living creature.’ Because of this action of God for Adam and every other human being born on earth, we now have a living, breathing soul which lasts forever!

When God gave each human being a soul, He knew this was going to be an eternal gift to us. So no matter how hard it is to breathe in some stressful situations, we must remember that God gave us His breath of life for eternity!

REFLECTION:

Have you thanked God today for giving you His breath of life?

If you missed them, go here for Week 1 and Week 2.
